• The district maintains dual resources for our school community to monitor positive COVID-19 cases within our schools and among our school populations. These include the Positive COVID-19 Case Dashboard, and the district’s cumulative COVID-19 case list, which has been in place since the start of the school year. Families are invited to review this short video, provided to help families better understand the resources.

Know the Three “Cs” – Case Investigation | Contact Tracing | Cleaning and Disinfecting - The district has developed the attached infographic to better explain this process.

  • Confirmed Positive Case COVID-19 Dashboard

The Central Bucks School District is committed to in-person instruction, and submitted a signed attestation that provides for the authority to continue to offer in-person instructional modes so long as the district commits to taking certain actions, as defined by the commonwealth, to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 among our in-person students and/or employees.

In order to continue to offer in-person instruction, the district must commit to the three C’s:

    • CASE INVESTIGATION
    • CONTACT TRACING (performed by the Bucks County Health Department)
    • CLEANING/DISINFECTING

The commonwealth’s process establishes confirmed positive case thresholds that trigger actions designed to mitigate the spread within a school. Thresholds and suggested responses are outlined here: PDE Recommendations for Pre-K-12 Schools Following Identification of a Case(s) of COVID-19 (Read online via the PDE website.) The thresholds differ depending upon the status of COVID-19 in the county and the size of the building's population.

Once these measures are complete, a building may re-open. In addition, the Bucks County Health Department (BCHD) has assigned a priority to contact tracing investigations that are associated with confirmed positive cases within schools. As a result, we remain hopeful that our schools can remain open, or if a closure is necessary, we will reopen quickly. Per the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE), "If case investigations, contact tracing, and cleaning and disinfecting can be accomplished in a faster time frame, the length of closure time may be shortened." Once complete, the school’s 14-day rolling total resets to 0.

We realize this will present a hardship and challenge for families who must manage child-care and other matters. For that reason, we will do all that we can to help families anticipate, wherever possible, a potential closure within their school. In addition to reporting all cases within our schools, we will report our confirmed positive cases. Please see the definitions of terminology below to help navigate this new information.

NOTIFICATION OF THE NEED TO CLOSE A CLASSROOM OR SCHOOL - In the event that it becomes necessary to migrate a classroom or school to all-virtual learning for any length of time, clear communication will be conveyed by the building principal or superintendent of schools via the district's Blackboard messaging system. District staff have been directed to prepare for closure at a moment's notice as part of the 2020-21 Return to School planning efforts conducted in the summer of 2020.

    Definitions

Confirmed Positive Case - A case that is confirmed positive through a COVID-19 test.

Onset Date - Symptom onset is defined as the date on which COVID-19 symptoms began.

14-Day Rolling Total Cases - Confirmed positive cases reported within the most recent 14 calendar days are included in the 14-day rolling total.

    • The total only includes cases where the individual was in-person or otherwise engaged in school activities or athletics two days before symptom onset or positive test.
    • The 14-day rolling total DOES NOT include positive cases among those who are engaged in the all-virtual program (unless the student participates in-person for athletics or activities).
    • The 14-day rolling total DOES NOT include positive cases among individuals who did not participate in any in-person instruction or school sponsored activities or athletics on or after their onset date.

Case Investigation - Central Bucks staff will research close personal contacts (individuals who have come within 6 feet of a confirmed positive case for a time period greater than or equal to 15 minutes) during the time when students or employees are in school, on district transportation, or otherwise engaged in school sponsored athletics or activities. This information, along with the confirmed positive case information, will be promptly reported to the BCHD.

Contact Tracing - Contact tracing is performed by the BCHD. For more information on contact tracing, please visit the Pennsylvania Department of Health website.

Cleaning and Disinfecting - The Facilities & Energy Management Operations Department (FEMO) is responsible for the daily cleaning and disinfection of all district buildings according to CDC approved guidelines. This process includes daily cleaning/disinfection of all high touch surfaces (water fillers, door handles/knobs, faucet/toilet handles, railings, etc.) twice daily using an EPA approved cleaning/disinfection process. Buses are disinfected through the use of electrostatic sprayers with Vital Oxide. Vital Oxide will also be run through heater vents on all vehicles.  All “high touch” surfaces in buses will be cleaned twice daily with sanitizing wipes.

Classrooms, buses, and other areas identified as being utilized by a confirmed positive individual are subjected to this process following the case investigation process.

  • Rolling 14 Day Confirmed Positive COVID-19 Case Total by School

Confirmed positive cases reported within the most recent 14 calendar days are included in the 14-day rolling total.

    • The total only includes cases where the individual was in-person or otherwise engaged in school activities or athletics two days before symptom onset or positive test. Symptom onset is defined as the date on which COVID-19 symptoms began.
    • All inclusive cleaning and disinfecting is scheduled as a preventative measure in schools where new cases occur. The date on which this was most recently performed is noted on the chart below.
    • Once the three "Cs" (Case Investigation | Contact Tracing | Cleaning and Disinfecting) are complete, the school’s 14-day rolling total resets to 0.
