1. Communicate with your child daily about class.
Discuss concerns and help your child to
formulate solutions.
2. Make sure your child is using the assignment book.
Something should always be written on a daily basis for
math.
3. Your child's math book should be home EVERY
night!!!
Even if the assignment gets done in school, your child
needs to address previous errors made, complete practice quizzes
(odd exercises are great for this), summarize lessons, formulate
questions
to be asked in class...a little
bit of practice each night goes a long way!
4. If needed, check your child's assignments nightly and help
to organize
the notebook. The homework should be easy to find in class.
5. It is imperative that your child completes and understands all
homework assignments. Mathematics builds
on itself and if your
child
misses just one concept, it could prevent him/her from achieving
their desired goals.
6. Make sure that in the case your child is absent from school,
that he/she completes and turns
over to me, any missed assignments.
A fellow classmate can help by informing your child of
the specific
missed assignments (make sure they have the name and
phone number).
7. Look for one graded quiz/test per week.
8. Tests will be announced one week in advance and quizzes
at least
three days in advance, unless it is a pop quiz. Check
Wiki for a listing.
Make sure
your child is preparing daily for upcoming evaluations.
9. Provide for a focused study time, free of TV, radio, and
telephone
(supervise and assist during this time if necessary).
10. Questioning is a very important part of learning. Encourage
your
child to ask in class if a concept
is not fully understood. There is
always
time for relevant student questions.
11. Encourage your child to seek help if more
explanation is needed of a concept.
(I am available Tuesday and Thursday
from 7:00 to 7:30 AM unless
I have a prior commitment. For an appointment, students are to
see me at least one day in advance.)
