Computer Applications I


The goal of Computer Technology I is to review and reinforce word processing skills and desktop publishing skills learned at the elementary level.  Students will also be introduced to database management, spreadsheet analysis, presentation skills, and internet tools.

Basic word processing skills will be reinforced by requiring students to:

  •     Keyboard using good technique and type all alphabetic keys by touch

Students will complete exercises and projects using the Microsoft Office applications.  During the word processing/desktop publishing phase of the course students will:

  •     Be able to demonstrate keyboarding proficiency according to grade level standards

  •     Be able to produce a variety of documents emphasizing: formatting, editing, grammar, composition, file storage and retrieval, importing of graphics, use of draw tools, layout and design, creativity, problem solving, and the use of different electronic peripherals.

Using the Excel spreadsheet program students will understand  and utilize basic electronic databases and learn the basic components of a spreadsheet.

Using Internet explorer and related resources students will:

  •     Be able to use the search tools in many search engines

  •     Be able to retrieve and evaluate information from various web sites

Using E-Choices Career Selection Database, students will be introduced to a variety of career opportunities.
