The Art department would like to
thank the 8th grade “A” day art classes for their participation
in this year’s MANNA project.
This is the fourth year that Unami is
involved in the
Kids
Care MANNA project, a collaboration of Kids Corner on WXPN (88.5
FM), MANNA
(Metropolitan AIDS Neighborhood Nutrition Alliance), and the Woodmere Art Museum.
Kids Care is an exhibition of artwork created by children especially for
people living with HIV/AIDS and encourages kids to help those in need
around the holidays. At the close of the exhibition, the artwork
is delivered as holiday gifts, along with MANNA's fabulous holiday
home-cooked meals for their clients.
Unami students in Mrs. Jones and Mr.
Kesilman’s art classes made beautiful ceramic wall pockets as holiday
gifts. They also put silk flowers in them and attached a small hand made
card with a personal message of good wishes. They are all presently
on display at the Woodmere Art Museum in Chestnut Hill.
The student artwork will be exhibited at the
Woodmere
Art Museum. The art opening reception is for all of the students
in all of the schools who gave their time and energy to this worthy
cause. All of Unami is invited to the show's opening on
Sunday November 13th 2005 from 2-4. WXPN’s “Kid’s Corner” radio
host Cathy O’Connell will once again be the master of ceremonies. The exhibition at the
Woodmere art museum is always impressive, and admission is free to all
visitors. You will also be able to tour the Woodmere's regular art
collection as well. The show will be up until late December if you cannot
make the opening.
The show will be up until December 18th, at
which point the gifts will be wrapped up and distributed, along with
specially prepared meals, to people living with AIDS.
Since 1990, MANNA has delivered and prepared over one
million meals to 2,600 people.
Students who would like to help give out the meals and
gifts may do so by contacting the Woodmere Art Museum. Student Council
also worked with MANNA this year through their
“Pie in the Sky”
program.
Thanks for showing
you care and that kids can make a difference! |
