Draped Bowl with Open Stem Base

Ceramics students have been busy hand-building in stoneware clay. We made a draped bowl and added an open stem ware base, using flattened coils or slab strips overlapped and shaped into a cone or cylinder. This project was inspired by an ancient Chinese example, that appears to have used the same hand-building techniques.

High fire glazes were then applied to give color and detail.
