First students viewed slides of cave paintings and drew
from the 17,000 year old images.
We then watched a video on the Lascaux caves and
answered questions about this recent discovery in our history. (1940)
Next students created compositions of their best
sketches, and included four shapes to show the four color harmonies they
had learned about previously, in our color wheel lesson.
Students learned how to apply and layer crayon to their
animal shapes and then colored their four shapes to show the following
color harmonies:
MONOCHROMATIC COLORS
SPLIT COMPLIMENTERY COLORS
ANALOGOUS COLORS
COMPLIMENTARY PAIR WITH BROWN
After we used crayon, we painted the backgrounds in
watercolor to detail the “rock walls.”
Students completed a rubric where they were asked to
evaluate their work in all of the above mentioned steps, as well as their
use of time, materials and effort.
Seventh grade art students work hard, do elaborate
projects, and have fun while learning in a hands-on environment. |
