2007 Art Trip: PA Academy of Fine Arts & Phila. Craft Show

The ninth grade art field trip to Philadelphia on November 9th, 2007 was loads of fun and educational too!

We visited the first art school and museum in the country, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. We enjoyed the Frank Furness architecture and the traditional American art collection there. The new building next door housed the contemporary exhibit of 21st century artists, and gave us another perspective on American art.

Just a short walk through center city took us to the Philadelphia Convention Center, where the Philadelphia Museum of Art held their annual craft show.  Artists were selected by a highly esteemed panel to be included in the exhibits. This is a huge fundraiser for the museum, because it draws so many wonderful contemporary artisans to Philadelphia. We saw a variety of materials including those we use at Unami, like clay and metal. Hopefully, we were all inspired to think in new ways about our art and it’s possibilities!
