Dear Parents:
We continue to be
very proud of the performance of our students on the PSSA standardized
tests that are used by the Pennsylvania Department of Education to measure
student achievement in schools throughout the state. The results of the
PSSA tests are summarized and reported in order to meet the requirements
of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001. The attached NCLB Report Card
summarizes the proficiency levels of our students in reading and
mathematics.
While these tests are
an important indicator of student performance, they do not tell the whole
story about our school. Test scores are only one indication of the
performance of our students, and I continue to be very proud of the work
that I see our students doing each day. As I reflect on the daily
performance of our students, a few key “Points of Pride” come to mind:
·
Our students are highly
involved with extracurricular activities offered at our school.
Many of the students in our school
participate in sports and in other extracurricular activities. Our music
and sports programs continue to be a highlight as more than two-thirds of
our students are involved in one or both.
·
Students continue to earn
individual awards and honors for their work.
In the past year, students from our school have received honors at science
competitions, writing and art awards, regional band, choir, and orchestra
programs, and other competitions.
·
Students show interest in
their community that extends beyond our school.
Many students complete service-learning projects. Various student
organizations support charities and community organizations either through
fund raising or through their work as volunteers. Several students have
received recognition for their volunteer efforts with community outreach
organizations.
·
Students are actively
engaged through curricular integrations.
Teams of teachers work together to provide hands-on activities that help
classroom learning “come alive” for the students. Examples are Ellis
Island Day, Greek Times and Crime Scene Investigations.
I would like to thank
parents for the support you provide to your children as well as for the
continued support you provide to our school. Please click the link below
