Second Grade
November 2010
Second grade is learning about Native Americans. Students are learning about "pinch pot" construction and geometric shapes on a functional piece of art. They are also
learning about using a stamping technique to create patterns in their designs.
December 2010
Students in second grade are learning about the use of symbols in artwork. Students are using sign language to form the sign for "I Love You" out of clay. Students are tracing their hands to sign the words.
January\February 2011
Second grade is completing their abstract waves of color paintings. Students created laser lines shooting across their paintings with special painter's tape. Focus was placed on the use of warm and cool colors.
March~ Youth Art Month~ 2011
Second grade is currently working on Giant Face Cards. Students are choosing a suit for their King, Queen, or Jack -adding shapes, patterns. Look for the cards on display at the March 23rd Avenue of the Arts at 7:00p.m. Second grade learned about a three-quarter and profile views for this unit along with pattern and shape.
May/June
Second grade students are currently creating Fish Spoon-rests. The fish are both functional and decorative. Students applied their design from their 3-D paintings to their fish designs in the clay.
