Learning Support and Autistic Support

“A teacher’s responsibility is to help a child hear the call of possibility.”
- Anonymous

Each of Pine Run’s learning support and autistic support classrooms are led by certified special education teachers and supported by a full-time educational assistant.  Through individualized educational programs, (IEPs) students are provided with the supports they require in order to make meaningful academic progress in their learning environments.  The learning support team provides direct, explicit and specially designed instruction in smaller group settings for all identified areas of need such as in reading, written language and/or mathematics.  In addition, if a student is in need of extra support within the regular education classroom, the learning support teacher will collaborate with their homeroom teachers in order to meet each student’s need.  Through an integrated and collaborative program which includes consistent communication among teachers, professional support staff and parents, students will be provided with an optimal learning experience as outlined by his/her IEP.

Emphasis is placed on creating a challenging, multi-sensory, and success-oriented approach to learning.  The learning support environment provides specialized instruction through the use of alternative methods and materials as well as through the modification and/or adaptation of content area subject matter.  Pre and Post testing as well as quarterly progress reports provide parents with a clear understanding of their child’s progress.  The goal of Pine Run’s learning support program is to meet each student’s needs at his/her particular rate and level of learning while guiding consistent progress and facilitating independent functioning.
