Buckingham follows​ a set protocol based on the Child Care Weather Watch when determining whether to have indoor or outdoor recess.

The decision to go out or remain in is made by Mr. Funseth and the team based on the conditions at recess time. The goal is to allow the children to play outside whenever the weather conditions permit. The wind-chill factor is our primary tool to make the “call”.

We generally remain outside for the full recess period provided the wind-chill is above 15 degrees. A wind-chill of between 10 and 15 degrees will result in an abbreviated outdoor recess. Rain, snow, or wind chills below 10 degrees will keep us indoors.

Children are reminded that they must wear their jackets at recess and dress appropriately for winter weather. “Spare” outdoor apparel from our Lost and Found is available for students who leave their outer jackets at home. ​
