Grades 3 - 6 have a 2-week loan period.

WHAT ABOUT PARENTS?  CAN THEY BORROW BOOKS?

Parents may be issued a library card, or can checkout books on their child's card.  Parents may checkout up to 10 items on a two-week loan.

The library maintains a special section with materials of interest to parents.  Our Home and School Association (Parent Support Network) adds items to the parent collection.  Watch the Home and School newsletter for mention of new items.

OVERDUE BOOKS POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

WHAT DOES OVERDUE MEAN?

Overdue means your book is late being returned to the library.

Your library materials need to be returned on the day your class comes to the library.  For K-2 that means every week, for grades 3-6 that means every other week.  If you want to exchange books before your library day, that is fine.  You will have an additional week to use the book before it becomes overdue.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A BOOK IS OVERDUE?

Each student is responsible for items which appear on his/her library card.

Students with overdue items may not checkout new items until overdue items have been returned.

Students with overdue items who need materials for in-school assignments may borrow a book for one day with teacher approval.

There is no late fee for overdue items.

Items that are overdue for more than two months will be considered “Lost” and a notice of replacement fees will be sent.  Lost book notices are given to students to take home.  If a response is not received within one week of the notice being given to a student, the same notice along with a letter of explanation will be sent to the students home.

HOW WILL I KNOW WHAT BOOKS ARE OVERDUE?

Overdue notices will be sent to students and staff twice a month.

LOST OR DAMAGED ITEMS POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

WHAT DO I DO IF I LOST A BOOK?

In order to maintain the library collection, if a book is thought to be lost, patrons are responsible for providing the funds to replace the item.

Come to the library and let us know that you have lost a book.  We will tell you how much it will cost to replace the book.

Bring in the replacement fees either in cash or a check made out to Pine Run Elementary School.

Each student is responsible for items which appear on his/her library card.

WHAT IF I FIND THE BOOK AFTER I'VE PAID FOR IT?

If a replacement fee is paid and the item is found within the same school year, a full refund will be provided.  Items found after one school year will not receive a refund, as the replacement fee has been spent on a replacement title.

WHAT HAPPENS IF A BOOK IS DAMAGED?

In order to maintain the library collection, if an item is damaged the borrower is responsible for replacement costs.

Students will be presented with a copy of the damaged item’s record highlighting the replacement cost.

If the replacement fee is not received within one week, the librarian will contact parent/guardian by mail, phone or email and a copy of the item record along with a note requesting the fee will be sent.
