Mr. Funseth

Many people have been wondering about our new Assistant Principal, Mr. Karl T. Funseth. Children thought he was a solider from the army or a famous guy from a TV show because of how he looked. All of those kids were thinking inside the box about Mr. Funseth but what we found out about him was outside the box. We asked him questions about himself and what he does. We were happily surprised with the answers we received.

Our first question was, "Do you have a particular sport you favored?" He said, "When I was growing up, I played baseball and liked it very much but watching it was very boring to me. Now, I think watching hockey is more interesting. As well as hockey, I enjoy many different sports such as football. My favorite team is the Buffalo Bills football team yet I like the Eagles and Steelers, too.” Next we asked him, “When you were our age, what was your favorite subject? Do you still like the same subject now?” Mr. Funseth responded, “My favorite subject was Social Studies. I was good at it, too. I wanted to be an astronaut and if I wanted to be that, I would have to know math and science. I liked science fiction, (sci-fi) in high school so I still have my hopes for being an astronaut in my life. The next question we asked him was, “Why did you choose to be a principal?” He said, “My dad was a principal so I wanted to be exactly like him. When I became a principal, my father was extremely proud of my accomplishment.”

Following that, the next question we asked was,” Do you have any children?” “I have twins,” he said, “Their names are Grant and Caroline. They are two years old and were born on February 4th. There is a new baby on its way in January which might be born on my birthday.” After that, we asked him if he has been to another state or country and does he know any other languages besides English. He responded, “I have visited Mexico, Canada, and every state in America except Texas and Alaska. I am hoping to visit Europe, Britain, and the Galapagos Islands. The language I know is Pig Latin, I also studied French and Swedish in high school.” “Do you like any winter sports?” was our next question. Mr.Funseth responded, “I go downhill and cross-country skiing, tobogganing, and snow-shoeing.” He also told us some other information about himself. “I have a greyhound, cats, and a rabbit for pets. My favorite artist is Norman Rockwell. I like his paintings. I have been in three marathon races. They were held in Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, and New York City.

We found an abundance of amazing facts about Mr. Funseth. He has many interests including sports, travel, art, family and work. Students should think twice before judging a new book by its cover. We were thrilled with the informative facts we learned about our “fun”tastic friend, our new Assistant Principal Mr. Funseth.
