4C History - Technology Tools

Our theme, 4C History, has four components: create, communicate, collaborate, and contextualize.  We will be employing online technologies to meet these four goals.

Be sure to visit the Dorman Data Digest wiki for helpful technology tools.

Blogs – Dorman’s Daily

Technical Information:

bullet

A blog is a website for which an individual or a group frequently generates text, photographs, video or audio files, and/or links, typically (but not always) on a daily basis.

bullet

The term is a shortened form of weblog.

bullet

Authoring a blog, maintaining a blog or adding an article to an existing blog is called "blogging".

bullet

Individual articles on a blog are called "blog posts," "posts," or "entries".

bullet

The person who posts these entries is called a "blogger".

How we are using this resource:

bullet

Podcasts – Dorman’s Directors

Technical Information:

bulletiPod + Broadcast = Podcast
bulletPodcasting is the method of distributing multimedia files, such as audio programs or music videos, over the Internet, for playback on mobile devices and personal computers.

How we are using this resource:

bulletIn each unit, students will be assigned to collaborate with other students to create original audio content that will be communicated through the class podcast.
bulletThe class podcast will take the form of a radio program with the following segments:

 Vocab Vibes

Living History

Innovation Station

Cultural Corner

Web Wowzers

bulletAdditionally, two students will be assigned as the show producers and will be responsible for creating the intro and outro as well as the transitions between segments.
bulletThe podcasts will be published and syndicated through the class GCast site at http://www.gcast.com/u/Dorman/main.  Students and parents can subscribe to the GCast site through iTunes, Juice, or other aggregator.

Wiki – Dorman Data Digest

Technical Information

bullet

A wiki is a type of website that allows users easily to add, remove, or otherwise edit and change most available content.

bullet

A single page in a wiki is referred to as a "wiki page", while the entire body of pages, which are usually highly interconnected via hyperlinks, is "the wiki"; in effect, a wiki is actually a very simple, easy-to-use user-maintained database for searching and creating information.

How we are using this resource:

bullet

The Dorman Data Digest wiki is located at http://dorman-data-digest.wikispaces.com/

bullet

Individual wiki pages for each unit have been created as well as a general technology tools page.

bullet

Any registered member, which you will all be by the end of the week, can post comments as well as upload and download documents.

bullet

Important items from each unit will be posted as learning tools.

bulletAs our community collaborates on our wiki, we will be creating a collective body of intelligence.
