Introduction
I have always wanted
to find out my ancestors. To do this, I traced back to my family
tree and found answers to questions I had wondered about for many years.
My grandparents and my dad are 100% Polish. So my research started
with information about Poland in l875. I found that my great grandparents
were farmers and spent their days in Warsaw saving money to move to America
in hopes of finding a better land in which to raise their family.
I hoped to uncover
more about their trip to America and how they spent their days. That
started me in my search.
Searching
To do my searching,
I had to work fast. I looked into many books to get a feel for what
farmers did back then. One of the books was Children of the Wildwest.
This book helped me a deal. It talked about sod houses, farms and,
of course, how the children lived, which I could have cared less about.
I then looked at a
book So Much to Be Done. I enjoyed this book even though it didn’t
talk much about farming. A lot of the book was about how women survived
the West. It was more of a diary then a book. This book did,
however, explain very well how women felt about sod houses. I read
that women settlers wrote diaries, letters, memories and autobiographies.
My question is, when did they get time to do this?
