II.I. THE DETAILED OUTLINEThe detailed outline is written after the research is completed. Your thesis may have changed. Perhaps sources could not be found to support one section of the working outline, or perhaps new and more interesting and related information has been found that was not covered by the first working thesis and outline. The new thesis would then be formulated to include these new concepts.
The detailed outline, then, includes the thesis statement and the major points from the most recent working outline with all supportive information aligned under each major heading. Make sure that each major heading has at least two subdivisions.
Your teacher will want to check the final thesis and detailed outline in order to check for five things: quality of thesis statement, support of thesis statement, logical order, adequate development under each heading, and use of proper outline format. For an example of a detailed outline, see page V.D.
