8th Grade Pennsylvania History Brochure and Web Quest

 

Introduction

 

The following task will require students to explore various web sites and documents related to the history of Pennsylvania. The students will develop an understanding of

the events, people, and unique characteristics that helped in the early development of 

 Pennsylvania. Each student will also have the opportunity to explore and create a

 brochure as a means of demonstrating comprehension of the facts 

 and concepts discovered with the help of the various resources.

 

 

Task

 

Students will be required to do individual research on the early development of Pennsylvania, collect data, and produce a travel brochure of Pennsylvania during the

time of William Penn. The purpose of the brochure is to persuade other people to come and settle in Penn’s new colony. The brochure must use Penn’s perspective and respond to the five questions listed below. There should be four to five supporting facts given for each question. The brochure requires a title.

 

Requirements

 

Follow the step-by-step directions in order to complete the task.

 

1.      Before you begin research understand each topic.

2.      Use web sites and resources.

3.      Read and take notes to answer the questions.

 

·        How did William Penn acquire his land in the New World?

 

·        What were the basic Quaker beliefs which helped shape the colony?

Be specific. How did each one help?

 

·        What was Penn’s relationship with the Native Americans?

 

·        What relationship did Penn develop with the other European nationalities besides the English? You may include those already in PA and still in Europe.

 

·        What was at least one other unique characteristic about early Pennsylvania?

 

 

4.      Now it is time to create the brochure itself.

 

·        Make sure you have enough facts to write well-developed paragraphs.

 

·        Answer all questions thoroughly, using at least four or five details for each paragraph or section.

 

·        Also include visuals.

 

 

·        Arrange and organize your information in a neat, attractive, and colorful pamphlet that would encourage someone to come to Pennsylvania. Your work should be as persuasive as possible. Make someone want to move to Pennsylvania!

 

·        You must include a title for your work.

 

 

Plagiarism

 

Plagiarism is considered cheating by the Central Bucks School District. Penalties are explained on page 3 of the assignment book and includes, but is not limited to receiving no credit for the assignment. Simply put, plagiarism uses the ideas and/ or words of someone else without properly giving them credit. It is not allowed.

 

 

Conclusion

 

As a resident of Pennsylvania it is important for one to understand the forces

and influences that helped create the state of Pennsylvania, as we know it today. Upon completion of this project the student should have a better understanding

of the early development of Pennsylvania, as well as using technology skills and research skills.
