Health and Physical Education Department

District Department Goals

Central Bucks School District

1.      Strengthen the district’s educational programs and services.

v    Administer some type of Physical Fitness testing to each student to determine if the student has attained a satisfactory level of fitness or if the student has identified weak areas and is attempting to improve his/her level through “goal setting”.

v    Implement a remedial program for students in “wellness” that incorporates an individualized look at a child’s limitations and educates how physical improvement can be achieved (thus adhering to the principles of  “No Child Left Behind”).

v    The H&PE Department recognizes that not all students will meet standards at the same time, thus we will provide intervention, remediation and offer “second chance learning” whenever possible.

v    Continue with Department staff development opportunities so that we can better meet the needs of special needs children K-12.

2.              Expand the availability, use, and integration of technology throughout

the district in both instructional and non–instructional areas.

v    Incorporate the use of technology to enhance instruction and student understanding of performance.

3.             Promote safe and positive relationships between schools and

       community.

v    The H&PE Department will communicate the use of Standards when dealing with parents, particularly with regard to satisfying course requirements.

v    Establish a sense of community within the student body by:

  1. Identifying forms of harassment and other harmful negative behaviors

(I.e. bullying) and eliminating them as unacceptable vents in physical activity settings.

  1. Exploring how competition can foster healthy relationships and attitudes.
  2. Emphasizing sportsmanship as an appropriate life-long behavior both on the field and off.
  3. Becoming a greater guiding influence and resource for students K-12 in appropriate nutritional choices.
