ability and interests, who have
successfully completed the elementary math
series, including pre-algebraic concepts. It extends previously learned
arithmetic skills to expressions involving variables. Major topics
include linear equations and inequalities, exponents, polynomials, factoring,
quadratic equations, proportions, functions, data analysis, applications and
problem solving.
Criteria for placement in this course includes : teacher recommendation;
Pre-Algebra grade of B or better for the year; fifth grade PSSA Math
score; and performance on the fifth grade end-of-year test, the fifth grade
performance-based test, the Algebra Readiness Test, and the sixth grade
end-of-year test.
2710 Pre-Algebra
This course is a preparatory algebra curriculum, designed for students
with average to good mathematical ability and interest, who have successfully
completed the elementary mathematics curriculum.
Major topics include: positive and negative numbers, equations,
ratios, proportions, percents, non-metric geometry, metric geometry, coordinate
plane, statistics, probability, and applications.
2720 Math 7

2800 Algebra 2/Trigonometry 1
This course is designed for students with excellent mathematical
ability. Algebra 1 topics are reviewed and extended. The solutions of linear
equations, linear inequalities, linear systems, and quadratic equations are addressed. Operations with rational, irrational,
and complex expressions are stressed. Introductory trigonometry, including
right triangle work and degree/radian conversions, is also taught.
Sequences and series are introduced.
Prerequisite: Algebra
1, B- grade or better.
2810 Algebra 1
This course is designed for those students with solid mathematical
ability who have successfully completed Pre-Algebra. The course extends
previously learned arithmetic skills to expressions involving variables.
Fundamental operations and properties are studied. Major topics include linear
equations and inequalities, exponents, polynomials,
factoring, quadratic equations, proportions, functions, data analysis,
applications, and problem solving.
Prerequisite: Pre-Algebra with
a C- grade or better.
2820 Pre-Algebra
This course is designed for students who completed course 2720 in
seventh grade. The curriculum provides an academic foundation in pre-algebra
which includes integers, percents, equations, inequalities, geometry, coordinate
geometry, problem solving, and selected topics in probability and statistics.
