The Nuclear Age Peace Foundation announces
the Year 2000 Barbara Mandigo Kelly Peace Poetry Contest, an annual series
of awards to encourage poets to explore and illuminate aspects of peace
and the human spirit.

Creative
Communication Poetry Contest (http://www.youngpoets.org/Contest.htm)
The purpose of the poetry contest is to
bring recognition to young writers. In each state or region there are 30
winners in each contest with over 750 winners nationwide. Only
one entry per poet for each contest. Submitting more than one entry may
disqualify you from the competition. All poems are limited to 21
lines of text. Poem must be the original work of the poet.
Eligiblity: All poets must
be in grades 4-12.
Prizes: These winners share almost
$40,000 in prizes and receive a complimentary copy of the anthology which
features their poem.
Entry Deadline: April 17th.

Essay Contest;
Eligibility:This contest is open
to kids worldwide who are between the ages of 8 and 17 at the time of their
submission. All entries must be in English. Submissions are limited
to one per person.
Entry Deadline: April 1, 2000

States Holocaust Memorial Museum (http://www.ushmm.org/a&wcontest/)
Eligibility: All students
in grades 7–12 may participate.
Criteria and Guidelines:
Through an artistic or written medium, depict ways in which Jewish displaced
persons rebuilt their lives after the Holocaust. Feel free to choose
from the full range of genres, including poetry, prose, plays, short stories,
etc. Limit of 1,500 words or less
Prizes: First Place:
Expense-paid trip for student and one parent/guardian to the Museum, a
selection of books, a gift certificate to the Museum Shop, and a certificate
of achievement. Other prizes in each division may include a collection
of books, a CD of music from the Holocaust period, and/or gift certificates
to the Museum Shop.
Entry Deadline: Entry is postmarked
after the May 3, 2000.
