Academic
Writing Workshop (0660)

This academic writing workshop
offers students the opportunity to strengthen their writing skills and
receive personalized coaching in the writing process. Students will
practice all steps of the writing process (planning, drafting, revising,
editing, and responding) and apply them to academic writing tasks.
Informative and persuasive paragraphs, thesis papers, comparison papers,
analysis papers, and position papers will be reviewed, and students will
work on academic compositions assigned in other subject areas. This
course is open to students in all grade levels.
Broadcasting

Broadcasting 1 is based
on mastering the fundamentals of broadcasting and applying them to live
and taped productions. Broadcasting 1 will concentrate on the actual
fundamentals of operating the technical equipment and talent techniques.
The students will display
their knowledge by doing the morning news broadcast and several group projects.
Several formal papers will be required.
Study hall and after school
time may be required for students enrolled in Broadcasting 1. Actual
class time includes homeroom and first period. This class is open
to all students.

Broadcasting 2 will begin
with a review of the basic skills presented in Broadcasting 1 and move
on to the mastery of higher level operations with the equipment and the
polishing of professional performances.
Each student will be responsible
for producing and directing his own interview show. In addition,
student groups will work on the morning announcements and other taped shows
as well. Several formal papers will be required.

Debate is designed to teach
methods of logical thinking, argumentation, and formal debating procedures
and skills. Students will learn the fundamentals of debate and will
participate in several formal debates. Debate provides training in
research, rhetoric, language skills, oratory, reasoning, politics, and
philosophy. This course is especially useful for students planning
a career in law, government, or business.
Fiction
into Film (0673)

Fiction into Film offers
students the opportunity to compare film and text versions of the same
piece of literature. In addition, students will compare films based
upon similar themes and will explore use of effective film techniques as
a communications form. This course is open to all grade levels.

students with a survey of major novels, short stories, and poems by the
masters of science fiction. These readings will form the basis for
a thoughtful look at the future.
Shakespeare

This course aims at developing
an appreciation, an enjoyment, and an understanding of Shakespeare's work.
Two tragedies, two comedies, and one history will be studied in depth.
Class work includes the staging
of scenes, reading of plays and critical essays, and writing analytical
