The library program provides students with opportunities to develop information retrieval and management skills, share and respond to quality children’s literature, and become critical users of knowledge.

  Kindergarten

§         Locate the various areas of the library.

§         Recognize circulation procedures. Select books to borrow.

§         Recognize basic library terms.

§         Identify author, illustrator. Enjoy a variety of stories and poetry drawn from various cultures and experiences.

§         Demonstrate proper care of materials.

 

  Grade 1

§         Locate library collections. Select appropriate materials.

§         Recognize and follow circulation procedures.

§         Recognize the electronic catalog.

§         Produce an answer to a basic research question.

§         Enjoy fiction and non-fiction by a variety of authors and illustrators, drawn from various cultures and experiences.

§         Demonstrate good care of materials, and proper electronic etiquette.

 

  Grade 2

§         Select appropriate materials from various collections in the library.

§         Follow circulation procedures.

§         Use the electronic catalog to locate materials.

§         Produce an answer to a simple research question. Write a basic bibliography.

§         Demonstrate appropriate behavior with print and electronic resources.

§         Enjoy fiction and non-fiction by a variety of authors and illustrators, drawn from various cultures and experiences.

 

  Grade 3

§         Locate appropriate materials in all library collections.

§         Use appropriate reference sources, both print and electronic.

§         Collect, evaluate, and organize information.

§         Research and report on a topic. Write a simple bibliography.

§         Use the electronic catalog to locate materials.

§         Demonstrate appropriate behavior with print and electronic resources.

§         Enjoy fiction and non-fiction by a variety of authors and illustrators.

 

  Grade 4

§         Locate appropriate materials in all library collections.

§         Use appropriate reference sources, both print and electronic.

§         Collect, evaluate, and organize information.

§         Research and report on various topics. Write a full bibliography.

§         Use various non-print resources to retrieve and present information.

§         Demonstrate appropriate behavior with print and electronic resources.

§         Enjoy various forms of literature, including different genres of fiction.

 

  Grade 5

§         Locate appropriate materials in all library collections.

§         Use appropriate reference sources, both print and electronic.

§         Collect, evaluate, and organize information.

§         Research and report on several topics. Write a full bibliography.

§         Use various non-print resources to retrieve and present information.

§         Demonstrate appropriate behavior with print and electronic resources.

§         Enjoy various forms of literature, including different genres of fiction.

 

  Grade 6

§         Locate materials in all library collections.

§         Use suitable reference sources, both print and electronic.

§         Perform the research process.

§         Complete the sixth grade assessment project.

§         Use various non-print resources to retrieve and present information.

§         Demonstrates appropriate behavior with print and electronic resources.

§         Enjoy various forms of literature, including different genres of fiction.
