§         Recognize upper and lower case letters.

§         Verbally count 20 or more objects in a random arrangement.

§         Read and write any number, 100 or less.

§         Recognize many non-computational uses of numbers through daily experiences.

§         Understand basic meaning of addition and subtraction in real situations.

§         Perform simple data collection and graphing.

§         Know the value of a penny, nickel, and dime; recognize a quarter.

§         Estimate times on an analog clock using only the hour hand.

§         Make and continue three part patterns.

§         Recognize and name basic plane and solid figures.

 

  Science

§         Explore the functions and uses of the five senses.

§         Identify the body part with which sense is associated.

§         Observe and describe weather.

§         Recognize factors that effect weather.

§         Describe how water can exist as a vapor, liquid, or solid.

§         Identify signs that are associated with the seasons.

§         Learn and practice appropriate hygiene.

§         Work cooperatively in a group to solve a problem.

 

  Social Studies

§         Recognize self as an individual with abilities and feelings.

§         Learn to recite personal information such as birthday, address, and phone number.

§         Recognize the role that each family member plays to provide for family needs.

§         Identify community helpers.

§         Explain the rules that are important for school and community environments.

§         Demonstrate cooperation in the classroom setting.

§         Identify similarities and differences among people.

§         Describe holidays that are celebrated in the U.S. and in different cultures.

§         Identify some patriotic symbols and important historical figures.

§         Demonstrate an understanding of beginning map and globe skills.

§         Identify farms and farm animals as sources of goods.

§         Become aware of local and world events appropriate to this level.

 

  Health

§         Recognize the importance of family members.

§         Recognize the importance of body/teeth care.

§         Understand the importance of proper foods for growth and energy.

§         Recognize the possible dangers posed by strangers.

 

  Phys Ed

The Physically Educated Person:

§         Has learned skills necessary to perform a variety of physical activities.

§         Values physical activity and its contribution to a healthful lifestyle.

 

  Library

§         Locate the various areas of the library.

§         Recognize circulation procedures. Select books to borrow.

§         Recognize basic library terms.

§         Identify author, illustrator. Enjoy a variety of stories and poetry drawn from various cultures and experiences.

§         Demonstrate proper care of materials.

 

  Art

§         Distinguish between natural and man-made forms.

§         Use a variety of materials and equipment safely and responsibly.

§         Use different kinds of lines to create simple compositions using basic geometric shapes.

§         Use primary colors to mix secondary colors.

§         Categorize artworks by subject matter (still life, portrait, landscape) and by form (painting, sculpture, and architecture).

§         Talk about his/her observations about art.

 

  Music

§         Match tones.

§         Keep a steady beat.

§         Distinguish between high and low.

§         Distinguish between loud and soft.

§         Distinguish between fast and slow.

§         Experience creative movement through action songs and singing games.

§         Enjoyment and love of music through singing and playing instruments.
