Central Bucks High School East

 Project Rationale

Pennsylvania State Regulations

All students in Pennsylvania are required to complete what the State Board of Education calls a Culminating Project. Chapter 4 of the PA State Board of Education Regulations states:

  • The purpose of the culminating project is to assure that students are able to apply, analyze, synthesize and evaluate information and communicate significant knowledge and understanding.

The Central Bucks School District's answer to this requirement is its Graduation Project.

The Central Bucks School District's Graduation Project

The Graduation Project is a public exhibition required of all students as part of Central Bucks graduation requirements.  The project is designed to give students an authentic opportunity to direct their own learning through research, self-reflection, and presentation.  To allow for differences in aptitude, learning style, and interest, students may choose their own topic from a variety of project types, including academic research, school and community service, internships, student-developed businesses, or an area of personal interest.

To make sure that high expectations are established for all students, teachers must clarify their expectations, agree on uniform standards, and define them so they will provide meaningful student feedback and lead to ongoing project improvement.  Learning in a large high school is personalized for students through the use of small advisory groups.  Students and teachers are linked in a common academic goal as teachers guide students through each step of the Graduation Project.
