National Standards for Phys Ed:

bulletStandard 1: Demonstrates competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities
bulletStandard 2: Demonstrates understanding of movement concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics as they apply to the learning and performance of physical activities.
bulletStandard 3: Participates regularly in physical activity.
bulletStandard 4: Achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of physical fitness.
bulletStandard 5: Exhibits responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others in physical activity settings.
bulletStandard 6: Values physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and/or social interaction.

 

Dress Code for Phys Ed:

bulletGym type shorts (cotton mesh, etc.)
bulletT-shirt
bulletSneakers (must be tied)
bulletSweat shirt/pants
bulletSwim suit (shorts and t-shirts may be worn over swim suit)
bulletTowel
bulletGoggles are suggested (especially for contact users) but not necessary
bulletNOT acceptable: Clothes worn to school, hard-soled shoes or sneakers, anything not in proper taste (i.e. vulgar, drug or alcohol related, innuendo, etc.), team uniforms

 

Assessment Areas:

bulletParticipation in Prescribed Fitness Tasks:
bulletThis area includes knowledge and development in the health related components of fitness: Flexibility, Cardiovascular, Muscular Strength, Muscular Endurance and also Agility/Coordination.
bulletStudents are required to be active and involved in class making valuable contributions. Students are evaluated based on both their quantity and quality of participation. Heart rate monitors may be used to assess the rate of exertion of students.
bulletAll students are to participate in a safe manner. Students will be warned about safety violations and deduced points on the first infraction. If a student receives a second infraction, they will be removed from the activity and receive a "0" for the daily lesson. Safety violations include but are not limited to: body contact, improper use of equipment, and off task behavior.
bulletSkill Evaluation:
bulletAdequate skill knowledge and demonstration of those skills is necessary for the safe conduct of all Physical Education classes. Students will be asked to improve their level of skill and participation.
bulletKnowledge Evaluation
bulletOccasionally homework will be assigned or quizzes given in class. Team building challenges will also be used to test cooperation, teamwork and sportsmanship.
bulletPreparation for class:
bulletStudents that do not have the appropriate attire for physical education will loose all daily points. Unprepared classes cannot be made up.
bullet1st unprepared - Parent Notification, "0" for class
bullet2nd unprepared - Administrative detention, 2nd parent notification, "0" for class
bullet3rd unprepared- Failure of the course, student placed in study hall
