Central Bucks High School East
Attendance
To see your student's attendance record, go to the Parent Portal or call the Attendance Office and ask for a copy.
What to do about Absence from School:
Parent/guardian calls the Attendance Hotline to report the date and reason for absence: 215-794-6931
Parent/guardian writes an excuse note (please use the school provided note cards).
Student (or parent) brings the excuse note to the Attendance Office within three days of the absence.
Parent Notification of Absences:
If a student has one or more absence in a school day, the East Attendance Auto Caller will contact parents/guardians by phone for notification. To change a phone number being called by the auto caller, a parent/guardian must call 267-893-2312.
What to do about Lateness to School:
Parent/guardian writes an excuse note (please use the school provided note cards).
Student signs in at the Attendance Office when s/he arrives to school
Student (or parent) submits the excuse note to the Attendance Office within three days of the lateness.
What to do about Appointments:
All appointments should be scheduled outside the school day.
If an appointment must be scheduled during the school day, parent/guardian must fill out an excuse note (please use the school provided note cards).
Parent/guardian must call the morning of the appointment to confirm the appointment.
Student must stop by the Attendance Office to pick up a yellow appointment card prior to the appointment (during lunch, between classes or during a study hall).
Students who drive may leave for appointments in their car IF parent confirms this (either by note or phone call)
Students who will be picked up by parent/guardian can meet parent outside the building after signing out through the Attendance Office.
What to do when a Student Becomes Sick While at School:
Student must get a note from their teacher to report to the Nurse's Office
After being seen by the nurse, the nurse will determine whether a student should go home.
The nurse will call parent/guardian.
The nurse will let the Attendance Office know what time the
student was dismissed from classes.
Note: Students are not permitted to use their cell phones during school
hours. Sick students must report to the nurse for care. The nurse will help
students contact parents.
What to do about College Visits, Family Trips & other Planned Absences:
Two or more weeks prior to planned absence, student should pick up a "Request for Approved Absence" form from the Attendance Office.
Parent/guardian completes the form.
Student takes completed form to each teacher for their initials. This ensures that student and teacher communicate about keeping up with missed work while away.
Form is due to the Attendance Office one week before trip is planned.
What to do about School Work Missed while Absent:
Students have three days to submit excuse notes for their absences. Without an excuse note, absences are considered unlawful. Students may not make up work for unlawful absences.
Students have the same number of days to make up work as the number of days they were absent (excused). For example, if a student is absent for three days (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday), that student has three days to make up missed work (Thursday, Friday and the following Monday).
Consequences for Not Having Excuse Notes and/or Cutting Class:
Excuse notes are required by law. If the school does not have an excuse note within three days of absence, the classes missed will be considered class cuts. The consequences for class cuts are as follows:
If an excuse note is received after the three-day grace period, the "cuts" will be taken away, but students will serve a 2-hour detention for not having their excuse notes on time.
Consequences for Truancy (half or whole day unexcused/unlawful absence):
Unexcused, or unlawful absences will be addressed through the cut process. In addition, the school will send a letter home warning parents/guardians about a first truancy. Second truancies will result in a Truancy Citation.
Prompt homeroom attendance is expected everyday. Homerooms are designed so that students and teachers stay together for all three years of high school. The time allotted for homeroom is meant for communication of important school-related news. At times, homeroom will be extended for special occasions such as homeroom activities, assemblies, class lunches, etc. Failure to attend homeroom will result in the following consequences:
1st time: warning
2nd time: teacher detention
3rd time: administrative detentionArriving on time to homeroom is also very important. Consequences for late arrival to homeroom are as follows:
1st - 3rd time: warning
4th time: teacher detention
5th time: administrative detentionMBIT students have a challenge getting to homeroom everyday since their buses arrive/depart during this time. Therefore...
AM MBIT students do NOT have to attend homeroom unless there is an extended homeroom that occurs after arrival to East.
PM MBIT student DO have to check into homeroom before leaving for their afternoon classes.
Specific instructions for MBIT students will be shared whenever we have a special bell schedule.
Athletics and Extracurricular Involvement:
In order for a student to participate in after school competitions, meetings or events etc., s/he must be present in school that day. Students who arrive to school later than 10:30 a.m. will be considered absent from school for the first half of the day, and are ineligible for participation in after-school practices, meetings, competitions, or events.
