The emphasis is on introductory skills involving composition, media techniques, and art criticism. There are two nine week sequential levels, Drawing and Painting 1 and Drawing and Painting 2. Each curriculum follows the state and national standards with DBAE based outcomes and includes oral, written and performance based assessments. The philosophy of the program is art for all students, encouraging all students to appreciate and feel comfortable with art.
This course is open to all students in grades 9-12 who enjoy two dimensional work. Emphasis is placed on developing basic drawing and painting skills and techniques. A variety of media will be used. The fundamentals of composition as found in the elements and principles of design will be used when drawing and painting from life and imagination, using realistic and abstract themes. This course meets in 90 minute blocks for 9 weeks in grades 10-12 and 45 minute class periods for the year in grade 9. It is worth 0.5 credits.
This course is open to all students in grades 10-12 who want to advance their skills and techniques in various drawing and painting topics and media. Students may work with advanced media while being encouraged to develop their own expression and style. This course is of special interest to students who want more time for portfolio presentation work. This course meets in 90 minute blocks for 9 weeks.
